More Trash to Treasure

A couple weekends ago I went home to help mom clean out and organize things she has in the attic.  This is all in preparation of putting the house on the market and moving out of the house.  Even though we don't know when that will happen we know that it is drawing near.  This isn't the sort of job that can be done quickly.  Helping with this sort of thing is always a test of my patience, which I seem to forget until an hour into it.  Mom was focused and did a great job.  I was impressed at how much she was willing to get rid of.  We spent the better part of 4 days (one benefit of my unemployment) working.  In the end mom had quite a bit to donate to the thrift store and I had a car load of stuff...  Oh man...

Before - An Old Piano Bench
Now - New Foot Stool
Anyway one of the things that I made of with was a piano bench.  Mom is able to remember the story behind EVERYTHING in the attic.  I often had to stop working to hear a story as something new was pulled out.  I learned a lot and enjoyed it.  Mom said this piano bench came from a neighbor we had in Maryland.  Apparently she brought this broken bench to mom and asked her if she wanted it.  I guess it is no small secret that mom is good at fixing up things.  Obviously mom took it... and fixed it... and put it in the attic.  She never used it.  Mom was happy when I told her my plan to turn it into a foot stool.  Jeffrey helped me to cut the legs shorter.  Gosh, power tools make things so easy!  I sanded it down, recovered the cushion, and put a new finish on it.  I just love turning things from trash to treasure!  (I have my feet up on it now and it is oh so comfy!)
