Drive Over Smuggler's Notch, check!

Smuggler's Notch

A friend was in the area being a tour guide to some west coast friends.  Since it was a beautiful day we decided to drive over Smuggler's Notch.  (I pushed the idea since today was the last day of my current To-Do list.  It was great to get one last thing checked off the list.)  The road through the notch is closed during the winter.  It is a narrow winding road.  On one side of the mountain is Smuggler's Notch Resort (where I was a ski instructor during and just after college) and on the other side is Stowe.  It was neat to see the beginning of fall colors.  At the top of the notch there are tons of cool boulders all over the place.  It is quite beautiful.

This is the top of the notch.  Two lanes of traffic pass through here.
Like I said, it is narrow, winding, and there are lots of cool boulders.

When we got to the other side of the mountain, we stopped by the Trapp Family Lodge.  This was where the family from the Sound of Music story came after they left Austria.  It has since been rebuilt into a large hotel.  We stayed long enough to take pictures outside and visit their gift shop.  Then we enjoyed a tasty pizza dinner.  It was a nice way to end the weekend.

Though I didn't finish everything on my list, I'm looking forward to creating a new To-Do list.  I'll keep you posted :)
