Fun Packed Weekends

My life has changed so much since moving to Vermont.  My weekends are so much busier.  I'm loving it!  I have had two fun packed weekends in a row.  I meant to tell you about my adventures during Labor Day last week but simply found myself too busy (and too tired).

On Saturday of Labor Day weekend, I volunteered with several family members at the Champlain Valley Fair in the maple sugar house.  My mouth is watering just remembering it.  I spent the day using maple cream (essentially condensed maple syrup) to frost doughnuts and sugar cookies.  I enjoyed several maple products:  maple cotton candy, maple bread, and of course several of my maple cream frosted doughnuts and sugar cookies.  YUM!  I would have had more but I was feeling a bit under the weather.  I caught a small cold adjusting to Vermont school germs and suddenly busy schedule/lack of sleep.  After our shift was over, we walked around the fair.  I saw some beautiful quilts and can't wait until the weather gets bad to take out my sewing machine.

On Sunday of Labor Day weekend I went to pick up some mums.  My aunt and uncle live near a master gardener who plants two fields of mums each year.  It was just beautiful to see her gardens.  I filled up my large flower pots with the largest mums I've ever had.  One mum filled up the whole pot!  And at $3.50 a pop it was practically a steal.

Later that night I walked over to the fair ground (because that's how close I live to it) for the Sugarland concert!  It is crazy to think that our tickets were bought while I was still in Kentucky.  I knew we were in for an interesting night because the weather was supposed to turn bad.  Since the tragedy at the Sugarland concert earlier summer (stage falling and killing 5 people), I knew that everyone would be extra sensitive to the bad weather.  Needless to say I went prepared with my heavy duty rain poncho.  While we were waiting it began to down pour.  I was so happy to have that poncho!  (It is the same poncho that kept me dry at the Kentucky Derby.  Oh, the memories!)  Just about the time the Sara Bareilles was scheduled to begin, they announced that a storm would be upon us soon and we had to evacuate and find shelter.  Not surprised.  Anyway the storm passed and the show went on.  We had tickets in the pit and it was awesome!!! We were so close to the band!  Good times.

On Monday of Labor Day weekend, I met two of my aunts to see The Help.  When I left the house it was sprinkling, but by the time I made it downtown it was down pouring.  I stepped out of my car and into a river in the road.  Of course I have a really great umbrella... in the closet at home (at that point, now it lives in my car, lesson learned).  By the time I made it into the movie theater my shorts and shoes were soaked through.  Regardless I had a great time.  I just love that story!  Afterwards we enjoyed tea and munchies at a tearoom off Church Street.  It had little booths where you sit on pillows.  It was so relaxing to just lounge, talk, eat, and drink.  I can't wait to go back!

This past weekend my cousin got married.  It was a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony for two very special people.  It was really neat to see how everything that I had helped with this summer came together.  I had even helped to sew the bridesmaids dresses!  Every decision that we made was perfect.  It was a great celebration!
