Memere is French-Canadian for grandmother. We pronounce it as Me - (said like the beginning of men) -may. Memere Bathalon lives about an hour and a half from where I am living now. One of my goals is to spend some time with her in her garden this summer. On Tuesday I went up and spent the day with her. Her poppies were so beautiful that I couldn't resist a picture.
Anyway here is what I learned in Memere's garden this week:
1. These are Sweet Williams.
2. If you can't beat the weeds, embrace them. Memere has many weeds in her garden. She really likes the white flowers on this weed.
3. Memere knows the names of many of her flowers, but not all. She described them by who gave the flower to her. These are "the blue flowers from Ma Tante (French-Canadian for Aunt) Yvonne" (or maybe it was from Uncle Jim - it was one of the two).
I have plans for a visit next week. It has been so nice not to work this summer! This is the first summer since high school that I have not worked. My days are spent sleeping in, biking, visiting with family, and doing things to help out. I am just soooo happy to be back in Vermont!
